Bought a new book about knitting mittens. It is called Warm Hands (Warme Handen). It is written both in dutch and in english by Carla Meijsen and Hilly van der Sluis from the Dutch Knitters. All the mittens in this book are started from the cuff up. I decided to make mine from the fingers up. Just like a toe-up sock.
It is working. Thumb on hold on a piece of leftover yarn. After I finish the cuff I will pick up the stitches for the thumb. Just like I do with an afterthought heel when I knit a sock. Because of the double stranded knitting, it makes a very warm mitten. Cuff to the tip, top down, toe-up? Whatever! It's all good. It will be a mitten when it is done.
