Like the other 3196 people I fell in love with the Color Affection by Veera Välimäki. I started it last month.
It took me like forever to choose the final color combination. How hard can this be? Just three colors. Must be the easiest thing in the world. Well, not for me. It seems.
I really tried. I really did. But I failed. I was already working on the short rows and realised that I did not like the color combination I was using. It is not the yarn. It is lovely. Madeline Tosh Merino Light in the Smokestack, Corsage and Sequoia colorway (bought at Penelope Craft).
Somehow, it didn’t feel right. It just did not speak to me. So, I ripped it out. Frogged it and started over with all those little leftover balls of sockwool I still have after finishing my third pair of Patchworksocks.
Modifications: I make a double yarnover on the backrows instead of a single one. This gives a bit more stretch to the border.
I am on the second part where you are supposed to work with the main color and the first other color. I am just ignoring this and make my way up to the short rows changing colors at random. Or whenever the leftover ball is finished.
I am sure I will make this shawl again the way it should be. That is with three colors the way Veera did it. But for now this is the way I choose to do it. Ask me again in a few weeks…if the shawl isn’t frogged by then.
